I would describe myself as a modern, figurative artist, taking elements & inspiration from more traditional, classical art forms and interpreting them in a new, expressive way through experimentation with various techniques and materials. My approach is to almost ‘sculpt’ the subject matter out of the canvas or paper and constantly rework it until I achieve the image I want. Often in the finished piece, there are traces of the reworked drawing(s) underneath. To me, this helps express movement in the image and shows how it evolved. Most works are mixed media which may include charcoal, acrylic, plaster, latex, varnishes etc.
I am currently working on a series of paintings & drawings based around the human & animal form with a contemporary edge.
